SICKLE CELL SENSITIZATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM
Sickle cell disease is a blood disorder (weakness of the red blood cells) that’s genetically passed on from parents. Many persons don’t know they do carry the trait of the disease and therefore end up passing it on to their children.
Under this program, we have over 100 sicklers under our care and support.
- We do provide them with basic information on the disease.
- We also take these sicklers 3 times a year to mulago hospital sickle cell clinic for review and check-up.
- On a monthly basis, we do provide the sicklers with medicine like folic acid, antimalarials and pain killers.
- Every month we carry out sensitization programs to help reduce the mortality rate in the community.
